editorial engagement photos vintage bar
Emma and Matt leaned into a session full of their favorite things by starting out at Fender's Coffee Bar in Norfolk for some espresso martinis. Emma and Matt's outfits had a modern flare in the midst of mid-century modern couches (do you think the owners will let me have the chair for my living room?). I opted for direct, off-camera flash to drive home the editorial essence of most of these photos while being sure to taking the time for some ambient lighting. The flash brings the photos to life by adding some fun depth, which is so fun to play around with, but the ambience gives a warmer, more intimate sense.
The second part of their session was at their home in their front yard and an empty plot where their wedding tent will stand when their wedding day comes around. The parallel of two of their best milestones taking place in the same spot during two different seasons of the year is honestly poetic. Oh how I love when couples take the opportunity to build their session around their lives and everything in it that they love.
